Treating Infertility Naturally - The Myth of Infertility

Have you been diagnosed as being infertile or believe that you may be having infertility issues? Have you been trying to get pregnant for a year or more without success or just a few months and you are worried because you haven't been able to get pregnant?
Infertility specialists consider you infertile or suffering from infertility after trying to get pregnant for 12 months without success. The stigma associated with infertility can be devastating and may cause you more undue stress that can further inhibit your ability to become pregnant naturally.
Do not believe the myth that there really is something wrong with you or feel that you will never become pregnant naturally or without the aid of modern medicine. Infertility is not a disease and as long as you still have your reproductive organs it is still possible for you to become pregnant naturally once the obstacles that are inhibiting your ability to become pregnant are overcome. Basically, it is usually not an issue with your reproductive organs that are to blame for the difficulty you may be having getting pregnant.
For most couples, infertility or the troubles that you are having getting pregnant are caused by other contributing factors that can be resolved by making your body healthy again. These days many infertility clinics and prospective parents are turning to Traditional Chinese Medicine and more natural forms of treatment to restore the body to a more healthy state that is conducive to becoming pregnant.

Treating Burns - Use the Right Method For Faster Healing

Most of us already know that treating burns with large amounts of water is useful in stopping the burning process as well as providing some degree of pain relief.
Generally speaking, if the burn occurs while at home, there is usually an adequate source of water readily available. The water used in treating burns can come from the kitchen sink, a bathtub faucet, or even a garden hose. However, using these methods may have some significant drawbacks.
If the source of water being used is not sterile, there is the chance of introducing contaminates into the wound.
As a result, the person with the burn may develop an infection that would only serve to complicate the healing process. Another potential drawback in the use of large amounts of water is that if the person needs to get medical attention, it will be impossible to continue to cool the wound with large amounts of water while traveling to the clinic or emergency room.
There is, however, a new product that is being used by some fire and EMS providers that offers a solution to the above disadvantages. By the way, this product is also available to homeowners as well.
Water-Jel is a product that is especially designed for treating burns and has the following benefits:
  • Provides cooling to the burn area
  • Extremely mobile, can be used in a car or ambulance
  • Relieves the pain
  • Prevents contamination of the wound

Tips on Decreasing Age Spots

Almost all anti-wrinkle creams claims the reduction of the appearance of wrinkles. Do we ever see age-free skin? We go through pages of many fashion magazines and we see Ads for anti-aging, wrinkles, lines puffy-eyes, dark circles age spots and I can go on and on with these Ads displayed in these magazines. We heard about Botox, and maybe some of us had tried this anti-aging solution. I believed some people are satisfied and others are disappointed, there we go, some anti-aging Ads claims that they are so effective, even "Better than Botox," "Botox Obsolete" and even more.
I am not an expert, but I know they can't all be excellent products. When we read these Ads it makes us want to believe that we are not suppose to wrinkle, and we all know this is part of aging. No one can truly get "Wrinkle Free Skin" no matter what anti-aging cream they use. If you think you can, then you are wrong. As we get older, yes! we began to age and we see these signs, skin blotching, age spots, wrinkles, lines, loss of smoothness in the skin therefore, we lost our radiance. Our skin begin to sag, under eye puffiness give us away, cow's feet, and thinning and saggy lips.

What You Should Know About Face Wrinkles

Nobody wants face wrinkles. Unfortunately, they are part of the natural aging process and we can expect to have them at some point in life. As we grow older, the skin can no longer produce enough collagen and elastin to keep the skin tight and supple. Moisturizers may be able to reduce face wrinkles to some degree, but wrinkles cannot be completely avoided.
Aside from aging, there are other factors that cause lines and wrinkles. Over-exposure to sun, wind and tanning salons, poor diet, smoking and inadequate water consumption can lead to face wrinkles.
Although facial wrinkling is inevitable, there are steps that people can take to reduce wrinkles. Many of these steps must begin as early as possible. Perhaps the most important thing people must do is avoid sun damage. Avoid spending time outdoors when the sun is at its peak. Use a sunscreen to protect the skin from the sun's rays. Women can wear a foundation with high SPF while men should use a sunscreen.

Best Wrinkle Cream For Young Looking Skin

With dozens of products available in the market today, picking the best wrinkle cream can prove difficult. A good anti aging wrinkle cream does not have to cost a fortune. However, there are important factors that you must consider when choosing the best cream for your skin type.
In choosing the best cream, find one that will get rid of wrinkles, crow's feet and fine lines. It should be able to revitalize and nourish your skin, remove blemishes, reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eyes, and improve firmness and skin elasticity. A good anti aging wrinkle lotion should contain vitamins and other ingredients to nourish, moisturize and restore your skin.
According to skin experts, antioxidants provide the best protection against skin wrinkles. Antioxidants stabilize free radicals that cause the breakdown of skin collagen. Although they may not be able to totally reverse the signs of aging, antioxidants protect the skin against environmental factors that may cause fine lines, sagging, discoloration and wrinkles.
The appearance of aging skin can be improved with regular treatment of wrinkle creams that contain anti aging ingredients. The best wrinkle creams contain Vitamins C and E. These nutrients help to restore the skin's smooth and vibrant looks. The product should be able to penetrate the skin layers where the ingredients can work to protect the skin cell's metabolic function.
Aside from Vitamins C and E, one of the most powerful anti aging ingredients in wrinkle cream is alpha lipoic acid, a strong antioxidant. It helps maintain the cell's natural ability to repair itself.
Hyaluronic acid in wrinkle creams help to smooth fine lines and lessen wrinkles. This ingredient temporarily plumps the skin and reduces wrinkles in the process. Some creams contain niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B3. Niacinamide help the skin stay moisturized.
Over-the-counter wrinkle creams usually contain retinol or Vitamin A. This ingredient has been shown to increase collagen production in the skin. Retinol is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals that are responsible for the breakdown of collagen. Wrinkle free creams containing retinol brings back the skin's firmness and elasticity, thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Even the best cream needs time to take effect. Experts advise that you should use the product for a minimum of 12 weeks to decide whether it works well for your skin type. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's directions.

Got Sexual Problems? Step Right Up!

The first time I saw the email was two weeks ago. A colleague sent it to me after it was sent to her with the request that it be posted in a popular online forum she moderates. Then I got it again, this time on a listserv I subscribe to. And the third time was when it was rudely posted in my own forum, without the courtesy request my colleague had received. Each email was the same, announcing a new program to be aired on Oprah's new network, and trolling for guests with sexual problems who are promised help from a "world-renowned Sex & Relationship Expert". Before we go any further, can we agree that when you have to tell people you're world-renowned, you're probably not?
Here's the pitch:
Are you struggling with your sex life or relationship?
Have you lost the spark in your relationship?
Is intimacy - or lack thereof - a source of conflict between you and your partner?
Are you desperate to reconnect but don't know where to turn, or don't have the resources to get the information you need?
Dr. Laura Berman can help!!!
It goes on, in a flurry of exclamation points and one wonderfully Freudian typo to promise that the host will help you "get exactly what you want and need in the bedroom and beyond!" Then it asks for your personal sexual story and a photo. The return email address is a gmail account with a well positioned "Harpo" reference, just so you know there's some connection to Oprah.
Now, I like television. I've worked in television production, making sexuality related programming, for over a decade. I also watch a lot of TV. I've watched Laura Berman on TV. I've read parts of her two most recent books, one of her industry papers, and some of her website. In the past she's given advice I find problematic and sometimes advice I find okay (that is, if you think that what people need is expert advice, which I happen to think is the last thing most of us need).
No amount of marketing can distort the reality that if you want help, going on television to receive it isn't the way to get it. Television is a good medium for many things, but providing individual counseling or advice simply isn't one of them. If you want more intimacy, or greater connection with a partner, it's not going to happen in front of a studio audience when the conversation is being guided in equal parts by the "world-renowned Sex & Relationship Expert" and the producer who is feeding her both lines and time constraints through her earpiece. The only people who benefit are the producers and host of the show. The audience is invited to gawk, to consume for a short period of time the empty calories offered by a narrative about sex that doesn't reflect anyone's lived experience.

Overcome Perfectionism

What are amiss with trying to better yourself? We all prefer to be better than we are. America is the Self-Improvement Capital of the Galaxy! We prefer to be smarter, happier, thinner, richer, wittier, more democratic, more lovable, and more successful than we are right now. We can't see why we should settle for being to a lesser degree all we can be. We want to fulfill ourselves, live up to our high potential, win the Gold. We get no points in our own eyes for coming second. An Olympian who wins a silver might have it bronzed. It's absurd, but we cannot see the absurdity of this endless striving for the Holy Grail of Betterness.

Here's what's wrong cutting-edge: we're not operating out of mature, adult judgment as to the most appropriate course of action to take. We are not making intelligent, considered choices in our own best interest. We are operating out of attitudes that we acquired during the formative stages of our personhood. We have never questioned the validity of these immature attitudes; we didn't even know they were down there below the level of conscious awareness. These attitudes predispose us to behave in certain ways. We are not in control of these predispositions, they control us. They override our adult judgment and set us up to buy exercise equipment that we'll never use and shouldn't have ordered. These attitudes are not rational or reasonable. They are not usually accessible to our conscious minds. They are down there in our psyche waiting for an occasion, an opportunity. When the time is right, they just kick in and drag us along with them. We are out of control. Our attitudes are in the saddle.

Our attitudes are formed out of the experiences of our childhood. They are incorporated into our budding personality. Our adult persona turns out to denigrate more than a constellation of immature attitudes from ages three, four, five and six. There are even constellations of constellations that predispose us to play different roles with different folks. We are not the same character with the Bishop that we are with our bowling buddies.

The requirement that we strive for perfection is not a conscious, well thought out idea. It is neither smart nor stupid. It is an attitude that one acquires early in childhood and carries into adulthood. One of these carryover beliefs is that, "I must be better than I am." Unfortunately, since this belief has no brains, it cannot tell us when to stop bettering ourselves. It cannot tell us how much betterment is enough. In the absence of such input, we find ourselves chasing our tails, pushing limits and screwing ourselves into the ceiling. We are the prisoners of our silent constellations.

People who strive for perfection wind up feeling inferior, inadequate, worthless and guilty. To relieve these painful feelings, they resolve to do better next time, still not knowing how good is good enough. Below are some of the struggles of a perfectionist:

Living With A Narcissistic Lawyer

Although it sounds like a bad lawyer joke, believe me it is no picnic living with a narcissistic attorney, especially if he is a litigator. Some of the qualities of an aggressive litigator are indicative of narcissism: arrogance, aggressiveness, self-entitlement, and grandiosity, just to name a few.

Let's be clear: having a big ego is not bad per se and in fact is essential for success in the court room. It is when one crosses over the line from healthy self esteem and confidence to high level toxic narcissism that anyone living with such a person suffers greatly. The biggest single difference that distinguishes the high-level narcissist is his total inability to empathize, which results in cruel behavior. Such behavior is ironically more common in the home than in the work place, in this instance, the court room, because the narcissist must put on an act in court, feigning great compassion.

To add together abuse to injury, a person who is both a high-level narcissist and a lawyer brings his litigation skills into the home in the form of "cross examination" and argumentative techniques even when he has dead wrong on the merits.

A major characteristic of a narcissistic attorney (and any narcissist for that matter) is the need to project an image of perfection. The more public the forum (such as the court room) the more the narcissist hides behind his mask of perfection. As the venue becomes smaller, the mask isn't really dropped---after all they are in fact "perfect" in their minds. However, because of their position of power in smaller groups, their need to be on their "best behavior" diminishes. This can be seen, for instance, in situations such as the humiliation of an employee in front of others at office meetings. The home is the most individual of all venues and thus, a spouse or other person living with a narcissist bears the greatest brunt of all. Often the victim will say to a psychotherapist or other confidante, words to this effect: "Everyone thinks this guy is so wonderful but they should try accepting this narcissistic jerk."

Perfectionism Feeds Food Addiction

As a lot a long time I accepted the monster of perfectionism. I had no idea that this thing was not a part of my personality, but rather a dangerous way of living that could destroy my life. I never suspected that perfectionism was one of the key reasons that I coulded my eating disorder.

In the world of a perfectionist "good enough" doesn't exist. For a perfectionist there has simply no such thing as a good enough relationship, a good enough house, a good enough weight, a good enough grade, a good enough dinner or a good enough performance. Everything has to be perfect or a perfectionist will have none of it.

This is a very dangerous way of living:
First "perfection" doesn't exist. Everybody has another "perfect" and what is perfect for me might not be perfect for you at all. Secondly, chasing perfection can rob you of peace, relationships and so many wonderful things and experiences that doesn't fit into your "perfect" box.

So if you are reaching for a perfect diet, you will never be satisfied with anything short of starvation. If you are only satisfied with the perfect exercise, you'll rather do nothing. If you can not fit into your number 2 jeans, you will rather stay home, watch TV, eat and feel miserable.

Believe me, I've been there, and it's no way to live. I found out along the way, after struggling with eating disorder and food addiction for many years, that CONSISTENCY is crucial in breaking free from a food struggle. It wasn't so important how I did some things, but rather that I got it done and I kept at it that broke the back of eating disorders.

Negative Side Effects of a Low-Carbohydrate Diet

Agreeing to the Archives of general medicine, research found that participants who practice low-carbohydrate diet lower their blood pressures versus those who practice low-fat diet. In the study they conducted, 20 grams of carbohydrates or equivalent to an apple and a slice of regular bread inclined to low-carbohydrates dieters. They ascertained that the body have problem finding enough carbohydrate to produce significant amount of glucose, needed to keep the brain on its optimum performance.

Because the body lacks the ability to use enough amounts of carbohydrates, it will resort to analyzing its own fat storage. Perfectionism - Is Is Necessary For Success?

Are you a Perfectionist?

Have you noticed that you:
# Place excessive demands on yourself by setting too high standards?

# Expect too much from yourself and your family?

# Get angry when you make a mistake?

# Feel that whatever you achieve, it's never good enough?

# Feel terrified of being average or mediocre?

# Find that it takes a long time to complete something because you have to get it done just right?

If you have answered to one or more of the above you may be just be a perfectionist. Does that seem to alarm you? Or maybe you have already been told this by coworkers, friends, or family members?

Striving to be the "best that you can be" is a commendable quality. For someone who is an athlete it is important to perfect their skill and perform at the highest level. In the competitive world in which we live, it's important to aim high, to strive for greatness.. People who set high standards are typically high achievers and this requires a healthy sense of perfectionism.

However, when one's level of expectations becomes obsessive, their behavior can become irrational, and self-defeating. This level of perfection can be counterproductive while creating unpleasantness and stress. Studies have shown that there is a correlation between unhealthy perfectionism and depression, anxiety, eating disorders and other mental health problems.

Individuals who show signs of unhealthy perfectionistic tendencies cannot live in the moment. Their insecurities drive them to put unreasonable, self-imposed demands that only allow them to focus on the past and their weakness and not on their strengths. There is a constant sense of urgency to protect the future. This can backfire, creating the reverse effect of procrastination and unproductiveness.

Perfectionism - Should We Strive For Perfection, Or Just Be Happy With What We've Got?

We accept all heard the adage before, "Practice Makes Perfect." Imagine, practicing something until you are actually perfect...without flaw in every way...supreme...is this possible? In a word, no. This ideology, if attended to, can lead one to a life of constant stress and undue worry and a complete and total lack of complacence. You see, perfection is a concept that is nearly if not completely unattainable. Man, by nature, is not perfect. Add to that the fact that doing something "perfectly" certainly contains an air of subjectivity and you will quickly realize why trying to attain the status of being PERFECT is a true lesson in futility.

Let's take, because instance, the state of your body you bet it looks. Imagine that you are in fantastic shape (ok, I am sure you are, but pretend someone who is reading this isn't...) You have about 8% body fat and your tummy is ripped. Your shoulders are rounded and chiseled and every line in your biceps and triceps is defined and your legs look like they belong on a statue. You have worked hard for this body and it is perfect...ALMOST. Most people that get their body to this level are never fully happy. They can always lose a bit more body fat, or get their arms just a bit bigger. The goal of becoming PERFECT is never ending and thus leads to a constant state of being "not quite there." The closer you get to perfection, for some, the further you are. Now, most of us would LOVE to be in this situation. We would LOVE to have a ripped and skinny body and we would be happy with our bodies should we attain this high level of fitness. For those that are stuck in the state of needing to be perfect, however, this can lead to an unhealthy obsession. These individuals will go to incredible lengths to reach their goal. The trouble is, their goal, being PERFECT, may never be reached...at any rate in their minds. They may take steroids, diet pills, quit eating altogether, or any number of other unhealthy measures.

It seems odd to say that most of us don't often get to taste an ice wine. Why on earth don't we? Well, they are out there, and any worthwhile wine store will stock at least a couple of them. Although very expensive, a good ice wine is pure natural perfection - and worth every bit of the cost.

Should you ever be unable to find a gift for a friend, think about getting a bottle of this delightful liquid. Once you've tasted it - especially with something like a rich chocolate dessert - you will see what you have been missing out on. Yes, and by the way, chocolate does go with wine, but the wine has to be a rich 'sticky' one with buckets of sweetness.

What is ice wine, icewine or eiswein?

It is a type of sweet or dessert wine that has been made from grapes that were allowed to freeze while still on the vine. One major difference between an ice wine and say a Sauternes or Tokaji, is that the grapes shouldn't have been infected by the Botrytis cinera fungus or noble rot to any great degree.

As harvest for ice wine is considerably later than that for a normal wine, it is vital that the grapes remain in a healthy state. Should any form of disease or mycosis catch on them, they'll deteriorate long before the gleaning period. This can be as late as January in the northern hemisphere.

Harvest chalk vino

The grapes, having been left on the vine, continue to gain natural sugars. As the autumnal weather arrives, the temperature slowly falls, but the acidity level remains fairly high which is important. If the acids dropped too quickly as the sugars rose, the resultant wine would have no character in the least. The mark of an ice wine is that its high sweetness will be nicely balanced by a refreshing high acidity.

Harvest will take place when the grapes are actually frozen on the vine. They're a very time consuming process as picking has to be handled hand to enable exact bunch selection. Pickers must often work unsociable hours to ensure that the grapes are celebrated to thaw out before pressing. Even the cellar staff will work in very cold temperatures.

Restore Adrenal Health with Natural Sea Salt

According to experts, as much as 60 to 80 percent of the population suffers from some level of adrenal fatigue, a condition with symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, difficultly dealing with stress, and trouble feeling energized even after a full night's rest. Interestingly enough, another common symptom of adrenal fatigue is salt cravings, and there may be a strong physiological reason for this.

When the adrenal glands are fatigued, they fail to produce adequate amounts of several hormones, including adrenaline, cortisol and aldosterone. Lack of aldosterone can disrupt the sodium balance at a cellular level. This can actually increase your needs for natural sodium and helps explain the salt cravings many people with adrenal fatigue experience.

How to Heal the Adrenals with Sea Salt

First and foremost, choose a high-quality brand of unrefined sea salt. Table salt can't offer a fraction of the benefits of sea salt, which contains sodium in a more usable state in addition to vital trace minerals that will facilitate adrenal healing.

Once you have a good quality salt, you should always salt your food to taste. Someone with adrenal fatigue will naturally enjoy more salt on his/her food; whereas, someone with healthy adrenals will generally prefer less.

Many people with adrenal fatigue also benefit from taking an additional 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of salt with a glass of water in the morning and evening, and throughout the day as needed. The salt can be mixed with the water or taken straight on the tongue and then chased with a glass of water.

It's important to allow your body to dictate how much natural salt you use in your diet. Most people with adrenal fatigue tend to like the taste of added salt to their food, and won't mind the taste of the salt-water mixture or even putting sea salt straight on their tongues. If you are working on healing your adrenals, as time passes you may notice that the salty taste is less appealing. Excess salt may even make you nauseous. This is typically a signal that your sodium needs are decreasing and that you should cut back on your intake.

For most people with adrenal health, sea salt therapy is highly beneficial and has few side effects. However, there are a few exceptions: those with heart disease, hypertension or kidney disease should consult with a professional first as salt may be contraindicated.

Natural Birth Control: Use Hot Water and Papaya Seeds

In today's society, much of the burden of birth control involves chemicals, drugs and often falls upon the women. However, it turns out the key to birth control might be better placed on men. And the good news is, you don't have to look any further than hot water and papaya seeds.

It turns out that sperm don't like heat and by bathing, or simply submerging the testes, in 116 degrees water (just below the pain threshold) for forty five minutes each day for 21 days, a male becomes sterile for the next six months. Doing this at 110 degrees reliably produces sterility for the next four months and either way, it can be repeated for continued effectiveness when the allotted time is up. This method dates back to the writings of Hippocrates and derives its effectiveness from the fact that sperm needs to be several degrees cooler than body temperature to be viable; this is why they hang outside the body. Actually, sperm cell death happens at 95 degrees F, while normal cell death happens at 108 degrees F - so this method effectively kills the sperm for a limited but extended period of time.

In addition, papaya seeds have been found to completely remove the sperm from a male monkey's ejaculation. Rats have also been tested with a compound from papaya seeds and found to have "significantly reduced" sperm counts. At higher levels of ingestion, the rats became completely infertile. The rats' researchers then declared the long term, daily use of compounds from papaya seeds to be a safe and effective male contraceptive.

Barefoot Sun Walking Heals the Body and Prevents Disease

"Barefoot sun walking" isn`t a term you`ll find on Wikipedia. But it is a way to simultaneously tap into two of nature`s most powerful healing forces. The term relates to the intersection of the sun and the earth and how they can combine to provide you with a wealth of health benefits. Quite simply, it is the act of walking barefoot on the earth while the sun is shining down and touching your skin directly.

Walking barefoot on the ground on a sunny day allows you to initiate a multi-directional cascade of healing effects that have the potential to prevent and reverse disease. This easy activity allows you to get both vitamin D from the sun and negative ions (electrons) from the earth. In fact, if Mother Nature had a sign, it might read: no shirt, no shoes, no disease.

Vitamin D is produced by your skin when it is exposed to sunlight. Considering the major health challenges facing a large percentage of the population today, and the fact that 40% of the U.S. population is deficient in vitamin D, the connection between vitamin D deficiency and a poor state of health seems pretty clear. Some of the benefits of maintaining optimal levels of vitamin D include the potential to alleviate depression and prevent ovarian, prostate, breast, and colon cancers, as well as osteoporosis. This is only a small sampling of the incredible benefits of this magical nutrient. (For more information on the healing potential of vitamin D,

Chiropractic Lowers Blood Pressure

Chiropractic adjustments work to harmonize the body's natural systems by realigning the spinal bones and removing pressure and congestion within the nervous system. This process decreases the physiological stress response and restores optimal function and healing to the body. Along with many other health issues, chiropractic care has shown to consistently achieve remarkable results in helping to stabilize blood pressure.

The nervous system is what allows our internal physiology to adapt to the stresses and demands of the external environment. The skull and spine surround and protect the nervous system and bear the consistent stress of gravity every day. When the external stressors become too great there is compromise in the spinal structure and resulting interference in the nervous system. This interference is termed subluxation. Subluxation causes the nervous system to move out of balance and towards sympathetic (fight or flight) dominance. This process increases stress hormone secretion, inflammatory processes, and blood vessel tone. For many individuals this results in higher blood pressure. Chiropractic adjustments remove subluxation and restore harmony to the nervous system allowing the body to stabilize and heal appropriately.

In 1988, a double blind study of 75 patients was performed to fully analyze the reports that chiropractic care could help stabilize blood pressure in patients. Within this study, one group of patients with elevated blood pressure received adjustments to the thoracic spine area. Another group received placebos (movements that seemed to be adjustments but were not), and a 3rd group received no treatment. The result was that the adjusted group experienced decreases in both systolic & diastolic blood pressure while no change was noted in either the control or placebo group.

Widespread male infertility sweeping the globe

Nearly 20 years ago, Danish scientists first broke the news to the world that men from Western countries seem to be slowly becoming infertile. Recent research seems to back this up as well, with average sperm counts having dropped to half of what they were 50 years ago.

According to reports, nearly 20 percent of men between the ages of 18 and 25 have sperm counts that are abnormally low. To put this in perspective, consider the fact that in the 1940s, men had an average of about 100 million sperm cells per millimeter of semen (m/ml). Today, the average is around 60m/ml. Those among the 20 percent with abnormal levels have less than 20m/ml.

So what is the cause behind decreasing sperm counts? Realistically, there is probably more than just one cause. Environmental toxins, synthetic food and water additives, and estrogenic substances in food are all likely culprits.

"It's most likely a reflection of the fact that many environmental and lifestyle changes over the past 50 years are inherently detrimental to sperm production," explained Professor Richard Sharpe, a fertility research expert at the Medical Research Council, in a U.K. report.

But what scientists believe may be the biggest cause of poor semen quality in men has more to do with what their mothers were exposed to during pregnancy, than what the men themselves are exposed to throughout their lifetimes.

A diet loaded with antioxidant rich foods improves insulin resistance

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDKD), insulin resistance is a condition in which the pancreas eventually can't keep up with the body's demand for insulin (a hormone that helps the body use glucose for energy). Eventually, an excess of glucose builds up in the bloodstream -- and that sets the stage for type 2 diabetes.

New research just presented at the Endocrine Society's 92nd Annual Meeting, held in San Diego, shows that natural antioxidants in the diet can be a powerful way to improve insulin resistance -- even in people who are obese and suffering from metabolic syndrome. A precursor of diabetes associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions (including high blood pressure, elevated insulin levels, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels) that raise the risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as diabetes.

"The beneficial effects of antioxidants are known, but we have revealed for the first time one of their biological bases of action -- improving hormonal action in obese subjects with the metabolic syndrome," lead researcher Antonio Mancini, MD, an endocrinology researcher at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy, said in a statement to the media.

Dr. Mancini and his fellow researchers investigated the effects of dietary antioxidants on insulin resistance in 16 men and 13 women between 18 and 66 years of age. All the research subjects were obese and insulin-resistant but had not yet developed full-blown diabetes. The study participants were randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups. Then all groups were place on low-calorie, Mediterranean-type diets averaging 1,500 calories daily and containing only 25 percent of these calories from protein foods with the rest made up of low-glycemic-index carbohydrates (carbs such as whole grains that don't cause a quick rise in blood sugar).

The dark side of nitrogen; too much fertilizer is destroying the planet

Reckless overuse of synthetic fertilizers is creating an ecological catastrophe, warns a recent feature in Grist

In traditional farming, the nitrogen available in the soil imposes a strict limit on how much food can be grown. Organic methods of nitrogen supplementation include planting certain leguminous ("nitrogen fixing") crops or manually applying nitrogen in the form of manure or compost.

Yet with the so-called "Green Revolution" after World War II, agronomists widely adopted the Haber-Bosch process for transforming chemically neutral atmospheric nitrogen into the much more volatile ammonia. Ammonia soon became the base for a wide array of fertilizers, allowing farmers to produce much greater yields than had been traditionally possible. This food boom directly fueled the global population explosion of the last 70 years.

Unfortunately, due to its intrinsically volatile nature, so-called reactive nitrogen does not stay where farmers put it -- it reacts easily with the elements around it to spread into the air, water and soil. Researchers estimate that as much as 70 percent of applied nitrogen ends up outside of the crops being grown. To make matters worse, farmers typically apply far more fertilizer than they need to, as a sort of insurance to produce the largest yields possible.

Excess nitrogen can actually destroy valuable soil organisms, degrading the soil's agricultural quantity. It is responsible for the proliferation of aquatic "dead zones," where agricultural runoff has produced algal blooms that devour oxygen and choke out fish, as well as bacterial blooms that can produce human disease. Other ecological consequences of nitrogen pollution include lake acidification and general habitat degradation.

Animals that People Consume Eat Arsenic

There are many reasons not to eat meat, but it's likely that most people don't consider avoiding the consumption of arsenic as one of them. But as it turns out, arsenic is regularly feed to chickens and sometimes also to turkeys and pigs. The poultry industry commonly uses additives with arsenic in them to induce weight gain and create the appearance of a healthy color in chicken meat. And it should be noted that if U.S. poultry producers need to create the appearance of a healthy color, then the chickens are likely not healthy to begin with - and feeding them arsenic is only going to make the situation worse.

Arsenic is a known poisonous compound. It's perhaps best known for being the murder weapon of choice among the noble classes from the Roman times to the mid-nineteenth century. At low levels, the consumption of arsenic mimics many chronic diseases, so it's likely you won't know that it's this poison affecting you. At high levels, arsenic is well known to kill.

Medical professionals are commonly under the illusion that our bodies can simply detoxify all of the poisons that most people regularly consume - and that these poisons don't cause the diseases that most of the population suffer from. But, let's be honest. Our body's ability to detoxify us, however powerful, isn't even close to able to remove all of the chemicals that most people regularly take in. Unfortunately, chickens aren't born with the ability to detoxif

Texas nurse prosecuted for daring to report actions of bad doctor

A nurse recently found herself facing felony prosecution for making an anonymous complaint about the unsafe practices of a doctor at the hospital where she worked in the small town of Kermit, Texas.

Anne Mitchell and two fellow nurses became concerned about the conduct of Dr. Rolando G. Arafiles Jr. not long after he joined the staff of their public hospital in 2008. After repeated complaints to hospital administrators went ignored, Mitchell and another nurse drafted a letter to the state medical board, citing six particular cases of concern. In one of these, Arafiles had performed a skin graft in an emergency room without surgical privileges, and the procedure failed. In another, he sutured a rubber tip to a crushed finger, for which he was later reprimanded by the Department of State Health Services. The nurses also complained that Arafiles was e-mailing patients about an herbal remedy that he sold outside his professional capacity.

A third nurse also enclosed a letter to the medical board.

The board notified Arafiles of the anonymous complaints, and he contacted his friend and patient the country sheriff, alleging harassment. Sheriff Robert L. Roberts Jr. obtained search warrants and searched hospital computers seeking the letters' authors.

Mitchell and her co-author were arrested and charged with misuse of official information. They were promptly fired. The third nurse was not charged.

Restaurant sushi tuna loaded with mercury

A new study on sushi has found that higher-end, restaurant-grade tuna sushi often has higher mercury levels than the cheaper tuna sushi found at local supermarkets. Researchers evaluated the DNA of various tuna species and came to the conclusion that varieties like blue fin akami and big eye tuna that typically have firmer flesh and are more visually appealing, are generally higher in mercury than other less expensive varieties.

According to the research, which appeared recently in the journal Biology Letters, the reason why higher-grade tuna often has higher mercury levels than other grades is because mercury tends to build up in muscle rather than in fat. This is why species like the blue fin toro, which is a fatty variety of tuna, typically has lower levels of mercury than bluefin akami and bigeye tuna, which are leaner varieties.

One exception was yellow fin tuna, which is lean but also low in mercury. Researchers believe that because this species is smaller than other varieties, eats less, and is generally killed at a younger age, it tends to accumulate less mercury than other varieties.

Overall, researchers observed that all species of tuna typically have high levels of mercury that, on average, exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) thresholds for daily consumption, as well as maximum levels in Japan. Blue fin akami was one of the worst, testing at levels of 1 part per million (ppm).

Vitamin D promotes memory and cognitive function in seniors

A lack of vitamin D has already been linked in several studies to depression. Now it appears a deficiency of this crucial nutrient could also play a role in robbing the brain of the ability to process information correctly and clearly.

Defined as a person's ability to process thoughts, cognitive function includes memory and the ability to learn new information, as well as speaking and reading comprehension. Aging is known to affect cognitive function in many people, resulting in memory loss and difficulty thinking of the right words while speaking or writing. But what if a lack of vitamin D could be the culprit that is causing or contributing to cognitive impairment in many elders -- and not simply aging by itself? If that's the case, it offers hope that adequate vitamin D could help keep minds agile and memory sharp.

Research headed by epidemiologist Katherine Tucker with the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, and published in Journals of Gerontology raises that possibility. Metabolic pathways for vitamin D have been found in the hippocampus and cerebellum -- areas of the brain involved in planning, processing, and forming new memories. So it appears a lack of vitamin D could disrupt these cognitive processes.

Pharmacists give themselves cancer from dispensing toxic chemotherapy chemicals

One of the side effects of chemotherapy is, ironically, cancer. The cancer doctors don't say much about it, but it's printed right on the chemo drug warning labels (in small print, of course). If you go into a cancer treatment clinic with one type of cancer, and you allow yourself to be injected with chemotherapy chemicals, you will often develop a second type of cancer as a result. Your oncologist will often claim to have successfully treated your first cancer even while you develop a second or third cancer directly caused by the chemo used to treat the original cancer.

There's nothing like cancer-causing chemotherapy to boost repeat business, huh?

During all this, the pharmacists are peddling these toxic chemotherapy chemicals to their customers as if they were medicine (which they aren't). While preparing these toxic chemical prescriptions, it turns out that pharmacists are exposing themselves to cancer-causing chemotherapy agents in the process. And because of that, pharmacists are giving themselves cancer... and they're dying from it.

Why pharmacists are dying of cancer

People who live in glass houses should never throw stones, they say. And you might similarly say that pharmacists who deal in poison shouldn't be surprised to one day discover they are killing themselves with it.

Chemotherapy drugs are extremely toxic to the human body, and they are readily absorbed through the skin. The very idea that they are even used in modern medicine is almost laughable if it weren't so downright disturbing and sad that hundreds of thousands of people are killed each year around the world by chemotherapy drugs.

Now you can add pharmacists to that statistic. For decades, they simply looked the other way, pretending they were playing a valuable role in our system of "modern" medicine, not admitting they were actually doling out chemicals that killed people. Now, the sobering truth has struck them hard: They are in the business of death, and it is killing them off, one by one.

The Seattle Times now reports the story of Sue Crump, a veteran pharmacist of two decades who spent much of her time dispensing chemotherapy drugs. Sue died last September of pancreatic cancer, and one of her dying wishes was that the truth would be told about how her on-the-job exposure to chemotherapy chemicals contributed to her own cancer.

Secondhand chemo

The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), it turns out, does not regulate workplace exposure to toxic, cancer-causing chemotherapy chemicals. At first glance, that seems surprising, since OSHA regulates workplace exposure to far less harmful chemicals. Why not chemo?

The answer is because the toxicity of chemotherapy has long been ignored by virtually everyone in medicine and the federal government. It has always been assumed harmless or even "safe" just because it's used as a kind of far-fetched "medicine" to treat cancer. This, despite the fact that chemotherapy is a derivative of the mustard gas used against enemy soldiers in World War I. Truthfully, chemotherapy has more in common with chemicals weapons than any legitimate medicine.

So today, while workers are protected from secondhand smoke in offices across the country, pharmacists are still being exposed every single day to toxic, cancer-causing chemicals that OSHA seems to just ignore. The agency has only issued one citation in the last decade to a hospital for inadequate safety handling of toxic chemotherapy drugs.

As the Seattle Times reports, "A just-completed study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) -- 10 years in the making and the largest to date -- confirms that chemo continues to contaminate the work spaces where it's used and in some cases is still being found in the urine of those who handle it..."

That same article goes on to report more pharmacists, veterinarians and nurses who are dead or dying from chemotherapy exposure:

• Bruce Harrison of St. Louis (cancer in his 50's, now dead)
• Karen Lewis of Baltimore (cancer in her 50's, still living)
• Brett Cordes of Scottsdale, Arizona (cancer at age 35, still living)
• Sally Giles of Vancouver, B.C. (cancer in her 40's, now dead)

The great contradiction in cancer treatments

As the Seattle Times reports:

"Danish epidemiologists used cancer-registry data from the 1940s through the late 1980s to first report a significantly increased risk of leukemia among oncology nurses and, later, physicians. Last year, another Danish study of more than 92,000 nurses found an elevated risk for breast, thyroid, nervous-system and brain cancers."

The story goes on to report how new safety rules are being put in place across the industry to protect pharmacists, veterinarians, nurses and doctors from toxic chemotherapy chemicals. But even the Seattle Times, which deserves credit for running this story, misses the bigger point:

Fifty Thousand Cured of Epidemic Nerve Disorder with Vitamin Supplements

The U.S. embargo of Cuba between 1991 and 1993 caused more than just economic consequences for the tiny island nation; it also caused interesting medical consequences that wealthier nations could learn from. The medical consequences of the embargo included an 'outbreak' of a painful nerve problem called 'neuropathy' that ended up affecting over 50,000 people. While it was determined that this 'epidemic' was caused by a virus, this virus was not treated with antiviral medications, antibiotics or any other pharmaceuticals. This epidemic was completely stopped in its tracks and the more than 50,000 people affected were CURED

Neuropathy is a nerve condition that causes pain and decreased sensation in many parts of the body but typically affects the lower extremities where it is called Peripheral Neuropathy. However, it may also affect the hands, the hearing, the face and even the nerves of the eyes causing not only pain and decreased sensation, but also deafness and blindness as well. The Cuban Neuropathy Epidemic, as this outbreak was later called, affected a combination of the extremities, the hearing and the eyes - sometimes in the same person. Young and old alike were affected and medical care was scarce due to many factors related to the embargo:

The poor economic conditions
The limited medical supplies entering the country
and
The vast numbers of people that were seeking medical attention for the epidemic

Make Your Own Natural Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

If you're sick of fluoride based toothpaste, who can blame you? Fluoride is widely touted to protect our teeth, but it's actually a poisonous chemical that causes cancer, damages our nervous system, and even creates

If you're going to make your own toothpaste, coconut oil is the perfect place to start. Coconut oil is a key ingredient in homemade toothpastes because it's a powerful, natural antibacterial and antifungal - so it works to kill harmful bacteria in your mouth while you brush. Coconut oil is excellent for your gums and brushing with it regularly can eliminate bleeding, sore gums. The oil kills the bacteria that are responsible for gingivitis - and if you have gingivitis, you might want to massage some coconut oil into your gums regularly, in addition to using it in your toothpaste. Brushing your tongue with the oil helps with thrush, a fungal problem localized in the mouth, and to boot, coconut oil has been found to stop and even reverse some tooth decay.

Another key ingredient in homemade toothpastes is baking soda. Baking soda is used for two reasons. First, it's a mild abrasive that provides a gentle cleansing. Second, it's alkaline. Being alkaline, baking soda can neutralize acids in your mouth that are often at the root of tooth decay. Baking soda also absorbs odors and helps produce sweet breath.

Vitamin E Protects the Lungs from Deadly Diseases

In the year 2000 it was estimated that approximately 16 million people suffered from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a progressive disease that hinders breathing. In the same year, COPD was responsible for the death of 2.74 million people. This number comes from the World Health Organization (WHO) statistics for the year 2000. While it is not the leading cause of death in the United States, it is among the deadliest. It shares 4th and 5th places with HIV/AIDS as a cause of death throughout the world. According to WHO predictions, it will be ranked 3rd by 2020. A new study has thankfully linked vitamin E to the protection of the lungs, and the subsequent prevention of COPD.

In this study, women over the age of 45 were given therapeutic amounts of vitamin E through supplementation. The aim of the study was to see if the vitamin e would cause any reduction in COPD severity, or even decrease the chance of being diagnosed with COPD. The results showed that consistent use of vitamin E over a long period of time is indeed effective in preventing COPD. In this large, randomized controlled trial, people who were supplementing with vitamin E were shown to have their COPD risk cut by 10%. What is even more shocking is that the benefits were found in smokers and non-smokers alike.

Although COPD is still more common in smokers than non-smokers, more and more people are being diagnosed with COPD due to the increased amount of air pollution. Supplementing with vitamin E can help curb the onset of COPD and is vital in such a polluted environment that we live in.

Supplementing with vitamin E is safe and easy to do, and it will cost you a lot less than any hospital bills. Most people take low-grade vitamins, chock full of toxic synthetic vitamins. In addition, the soil that we use to grow our produce has become depleted of its nutrients, yielding nutrient-deficient crops. Because of this, it is difficult to get all the essential daily nutrients from eating alone. Even many supplements do not deliver enough high quality vitamin E. When supplementing with vitamin E, it's important to take natural vitamin E in the form of d-alpha tocopherol. The synthetic version of vitamin E is dl-alpha-tocopherol.

Science Paper Calls for More Research Into Perennial Grain Crops

Ask any knowledgeable gardener to tell you what kinds of plants are easiest to grow and care for and they'll tell you: perennials. As opposed to one-season wonders, perennial crops grow deeper roots, stronger bonds with the soil, are easier to care for, and are better for the ecosystem around and under them then their single-season counterparts.

Scientists around the world are working towards replacing one of humanity's largest staple crops (grains) with perennial alternatives. A paper published in the June 25th issue of Science, penned by more than two dozen authors including scientists, plant breeders, and geneticists, calls for more work to be done towards creating breeds of grain crops that grow perennially.1

These plants, say the paper's authors, have the great benefits of all perennials: lower need for water, fertilizers, and more. In addition, these hardier plants will grow better in more marginal soils, which means they can be grown in areas of Africa and Asia where food security is non-existent.

Because their roots go much deeper (up to 12 feet in some experimental strains), these grains would aid in mitigating soil erosion, are better able to capture nutrients and water, and are thus more drought tolerant than current popular grain strains. They also require fewer passes from farm equipment (less work) and for industrial farming would mean less herbicide and much less fertilization - especially nitrates. Organic farmers would also find it easier to care for and build the soil around perennial grains.

Find Out Why Watermelon is a Nutritional Powerhouse

Who would have thought the common watermelon packed so much nutrition? The usual notion about watermelon is they are just water with taste, harmless, but not a good choice for nutritional value. Wrong! Watermelon has the most nutrition per calorie of common foods.

Organic watermelons are hard to find and pricey when found. But conventionally grown watermelons are not among the dirty dozen of the most heavily sprayed produce. Instead, they are actually among the fifteen most clean of non-organic fruits and vegetables.

What Watermelons Have to Offer

Besides tasting great and being low in calories because watermelon is mostly water, it is an excellent source of Vitamin C, which a major antioxidant. It has a high beta carotene concentration, thus offering a fair amount of vitamin A as well. Both beta carotene with vitamin A help support good eyesight and prevent glaucoma.

High intakes of combined beta-carotene and vitamin C have demonstrated, through clinical and scientific studies, a propensity for warding off various cancers and heart disease, reducing arthritis symptoms, and minimizing asthmatic breathing problems.

A surprise nutrient is vitamin B, especially B1 (thiamine) and B6 (pyridoxine). Thiamine is important for maintaining electrolytes and nervous system signal transmissions throughout the body. Pyridoxine is essential for enzymatic functions that convert food into cellular energy.

The meat or pulp of watermelons is usually pink or red. Those colors indicate the highest content of lycopene, an antioxidant lauded for its ability to greatly minimize cancer risks. From the Worlds' Healthiest Foods

Then there are the minerals of potassium and magnesium, which watermelons also offer abundantly. Potassium is important for cardiovascular health and brain health and helps the kidneys eliminate kidney stone forming calcium as well as assists with the body's fluid retention.

Chiropractic Helps Digestive Disorders

Over $80 billion are spent each year on drugs to relieve heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, gas, irritable bowel, constipation, diarrhea and other digestive disorders. These symptoms of abnormal digestive are becoming increasingly more prevalent in our society. Science and research have shown that chiropractic care offers a powerful solution to this modern-day epidemic.

The nervous system controls digestive function from several different regions. The vagus nerve which courses out of the brain stem and runs near the atlas bone innervates all the major organs of digestion and functions to stimulate the digestive process. Other major areas controlling the pace of digestion include the sympathetic nerves coming out of the thoracic & lumbar regions and the sacral parasympathetic nerve fibers. Spinal misalignment in any of these regions can lead to neurological compromise and altered digestive function.

Wellness oriented chiropractors search for the location of such spinal misalignments termed `subluxations.` A specific chiropractic adjustment realigns the altered regions and restores nerve supply to the deficient organs. This approach honors the body's innate ability to heal and works to harmonize this incredible life force in order to enhance organ function & quality of life.
